What is Magnesium?
It is one of the five most important minerals in the human’s body. Practically, each of your cells and more than 300 chemical reactions in your body need magnesium to function properly.
Some of the most important magnesium benefits are:
- Maintains balanced energy levels
- Keeps your bones healthy
- Speeds up the healing and soothing of inflammation as well as other injuries
- Improves circulation
- Aids the absorption of vitamin D.
- Reduces the risk of diabetes.
Magnesium is essential for your overall health, and that’s a fact. However, the standard American diet doesn’t provide enough of this mineral.
In fact, an average American adult gets only about 66 percent of the recommended daily amount of magnesium.
If you belong to this group of people, there’s an easy way to avoid magnesium deficiency, and that’s supplementing it topically.
That’s right. You can get enough magnesium through your skin in the same way as nicotine patches help people kick the habit of smoking.
A lot of nutrients and minerals, including magnesium, can get absorbed through the skin, thus providing your body with their immense benefits.
Dr. Norman Shealy of the AHMA conducted research with people applying magnesium oil topically and using magnesium flake foot soaks on a daily basis.
The results showed that 75 percent of the participants noticed a drastic raise in their magnesium levels after the 4 weeks treatment.
So, you can increase your magnesium levels in the same way. Instead of buying a commercial moisturizer, try this DIY moisturizing body butter that will soothe your muscles and protect your skin from the harmful UV rays.
Avocado oil and shea butter have a natural SPF (sun protecting factor) ranging from 4 to 10.
Natural Moisturizing Magnesium Body Butter.
- 3 tbsp. of boiling water.
- Half a cup of magnesium flakes.
Stir in the flakes into the boiling water until dissolved completely. Then, let the solution cool.
Magnesium Body Butter.
- 1/4 cup of avocado oil (as an alternative you can use unrefined coconut oil or sweet almond oil).
- Half a cup of the magnesium oil you’ve prepared (see above).
- 3 tbsp. of shea butter.
- 2 tbsp. of emulsifying wax.
Fill 1/4 of a small pot with water and heat until it starts boiling. Then, let it simmer over a low heat and fit a stainless steel mixing bowl or Pyrex bowl to make a double-boiler. However, the bowl shouldn’t be touching the water.
The next step is adding all the ingredients in the water, except for the magnesium oil. Let the ingredients melt together and then remove from heat. Put the bowl aside and let the mixture cool to a room temperature.
Blend everything using a hand blender, and gradually add the magnesium oil. Once the mixture is well combined, put it in the fridge to cool for 15 minutes. Then, blend once again, and that’s it.
You have your own natural magnesium body butter. It should last for up to 2 months. You can keep it in the fridge for cooling effect.
